Default safe neighborhoods?

Hey there- i'm moving to charlotte from the west coast and want some clues as to where's safe and commutable (by bicycle)- i'll be working on tyvola road and want something close to there and affordable- i'll hopefully buy a house in the next six months but need to live somewhere until i find a place to purchase. i found something (possibly) on "beacon hill road"? ghetto or not?

Beacon Hill Rd is not ringing a bell for me...can you provide another street name or cross street nearby?

Well, there's a Beacon Hill Lane and a Beacon Ridge Road in Charlotte. Both would be a poor choice to live in. Parts of Tyvola by South Blvd are nasty for reasons that will be apparent when you see it. Dilworth is okay, but one thing your going to find is that Charlotte is not really a bike friendly city.

My husband and our two children will be moving to the Charlotte area in 2008. We would like to know the best and safest places to live. We recently visited and fell in love with Cabarrus County. However, we would also like to know which areas in Charlotte are also safe and nice to raise a family. How are the schools in Charlotte-Mecklenburg County?

Hello! We did a lot of research before moving to the Charlotte area, and we are a family of 6. We moved here from Maryland and love the area, however we have discovered that there is a lot of home break-ins and petty crime in the area, mostly in Mecklenberg County and North and East Charlotte. We have now lived here for almost 2 years and we are happy we chose Union County to settle and raise our family. However, in Union County, the low-end areas are around Monroe. Waxhaw, Weddington are absolutely beautiful and the home values are rising. The schools in Weddington are considered some of the finest in North Carolina, whereby Mecklenberg County schools are considered to be the worst. As much as I love this area and feel it is a great place to raise my children, if I were to choose any place in North Carolina where I would rather live, it would have to be in Cary, North Carolina. It has been ranked by many sources as being one of the top 10 places to live in the United States for safety, retirement, and to raise a family. But, if you are absolutely moving to Charlotte, I would definitely consider Union County in Waxhaw and Weddington. Best wishes to you and your family and I hope you find a wonderful home.

S. Vaughn
