Steele Creek is worth a look. Some will say the schools are bad. But some people are idiots too.

I actually heard Steele Creek is decent. I guess if you have concerns, just do some research. The above suggestions are good ones. May check out Highland Creek 28269 maybe even 28027 part of Concord since they are rght off 85 as well but i don't know if Id go much further out. If you can stay close enough to i77 in Huntersville that may be an option too. Those locations are no further than Ballantyne and are closer than Ft. Mill. Easy drive though

We just relocated to Charlotte (I also work in Uptown), chose the Ballantyne area mainly because of what others back in Raleigh said about it. We are currently renting to understand the Charlotte area better... while I don't have anything bad to say about the Ballantyne area, we haven't really checked out many other areas either. Schools were a big factor for us, even though none of our kids are school-aged yet.

I think it's a good idea to rent first, as buying immediately is a big commitment in an unknown area... however, you do have to put up with being a renter and not making the home your own.
