I recently moved to the Charlotte area and I'm looking for a church to call home. I've heard a lot of buzz about Elevation Church. My previous church was pretty large in size and contemporary, so I feel like Elevation might be a good fit. For those who've attended, what should I expect? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
I've got several friends that go there and they love it while others of us not so much. If you are use to a very large and contemporary church I think you'd probably enjoy it. You should definitely check it out and form your own opinion though.
I've gone there for years. It's great and if you like the contemporary feel of worship (guitars, baseball caps, tattoos), you will enjoy it. The sermons are moving and easy to understand; Pastor Steven speaks in a way that keeps your attention. There are many small group options (eGroups) where people are friendly and inviting.
Expect loud music, a big crowd, casual attire, and people at the front greeting you and shaking your hand.
If you're into that particular style, there are maybe a dozen churches in the Charlotte area that have sort of copied Elevation's brand (and Elevation didn't come up with this, but first made it mainstream in Charlotte) that have maybe about 800-1,000 people attend as opposed to the 15,000 or whatever Elevation has now. If you attend those churches, you'll actually have a chance to meet your pastor and know people throughout the church and become a valuable member. It's VERY challenging to do that at Elevation. To find them, google churches in Charlotte and look for those that don't have a denomination in their church title.
And expect to help pay for Pastor Steven's 16,000 square foot mansion.
Hahhaha! Thats absolutely correct LOL!
I'd stay away from elevation personally. They just do it for the money personally. Like the person above me said, you'll be paying for his 16k foot mansion and plenty of other things that cost a **** ton of money that you won't ever know about.
Personally I'd stay far away from that place if i were you.
Over the past few weeks I've had several drivers cut me off and another one driving erratically, speeding down Fairview Rd. The only thing each driver had in common was an Elevation Church sticker on their rear window. Coincidence I'm sure.

That sucks haha. One of my old friends of mine went to elevation but only cause his parents went there for a while I think lol. I think they go to a new one now though.
Find a different church other than elevation, they honestly are in it for the money the way I see things frankly.
