Ran across this news article from the Union County edition of the Charlotte Observer, published in March, 2007, with a list of phone numbers for Union County government and services...thought it something good to keep handy!

It appears that the kids that go to Hunter Oaks go to South Providence correct? Their scores look horrible! Sorry, but they do. What is going on with this school? Does anybody know?

I take that back - it says that south providence only has 90 students. I assume that this is a special school - maybe? So, what schools do the kids in Hunter Oaks go to?

For the next school year, Hunter Oaks assignments: (all three are new schools)

Elementary: Rea View Elementary
Middle: Marvin Ridge Middle
High: Marvin Ridge High

Rea View is being populated from Marvin Elementary, Marvin Ridge Middle largely from Weddington Middle, and Marvin Ridge High largely from Weddington High.

WE live in hunter oaks and my children will be attending Rea View Elem, and Marvin Ridge middle, We arent in the City of Waxhaw meaning the schools were Marvin Elem and WEddington Middle and HS before these new schools were built..which other than Marvin Ridge they all will open in the fall for the new school year
but our mailing address is Waxhaw, if that makes sense...it is very confusing...

Hunter Oaks is Waxhaw? That's something I didn't know. Are all the subdivisions of Hunter Oaks in Union County? Where does Mecklenburg County begin? You live pretty close to me. How old are your kids again? We should meet!

The Union/Meck border is just above Hunter Oaks, right where you cross over the bridge on Rea Rd.

Hunter Oaks is in an unincorporated portion of Union County, but generally in the Marvin community. The Marvin community is served by the Waxhaw post office, thus anyone with 28173 has a Waxhaw address.

South Providence School (Union County) is an alternative school for students with discipline/behavior issues. I understand it is an awesome alternative for kids who just don't function well in the general population. South Providence School

I might offend some in asking this, but who knows. Is Waxhaw very southern...and by southern, I mean...redneck? I notice that it's not very racially intergrated and it's very country looking...beautiful, but country looking. I realize that there is going to be racism anywhere you go, but I don't want to be ran out of the neighborhood because I am half black and my son is 75% black (husband is white). Touchy subject, I know. But honest opinions are appreciated. It appears that this is the place where the people who don't want to deal with the city move to, but I have never really been in the area.
