Recommend the best restaurants..
Coming to Charlotte soon. Want to try out some local restaurants, and looking for recommendations..
Not really looking for recommendations on franchise chains. I've eaten at most of the common ones. I'm looking for those hidden gems, family owned places, etc.

You should try (a) Luce - outside the entrance to the Hearst Tower in Uptown Charlotte, and (b) Nobles Restaurant in South Park. There are others, like Capitol Grille (Tryon Street, Uptown Charlotte) and Roosters in South Park.

Capitol Grille and Roosters are great but they're both chains. How about Ratcliffe on the Green or Carpe Diem?

Rooster's isn't a chain, definetely a one and only (for right now).
If in the SouthPark area, along with Roosters, I highly recommend Barrington's.
Carpe Diem is also great (as noted above) in Elizabeth.
Uptown, I have had some excellent dinners at Harry and Jeans (2 locations).

I second Harry and Jeans and Carpe Diem. H&J's potato pancakes are the best! We also like Arpa (tapas). Mert's Soul Food is a local restaurant if you're looking for something casual. You have to get the banana pudding!

Here you can check out the places that are smoke free (if this interests you).

Arpas is good.
