Default Preferred Hospital?

I am registering for my children for summer camp at the JCC on Providence. I need to list a preferred hospital. My insurance (BC/BS) lists Carolinas Medical Center and Presbyterian. I hope we won't need them, but if my child is injured, which hospital do I want them to go to?
Thanks, Karen

Since you have the luxury of being able to choose . .. I would suggest you consider which hospital location would be closer should it be needed.

For a child, I would definitely take them to CMC - main. Its the only Level 1 Trauma Center in this area.

Presby uptown has a great new kids area. Doctors and staff are great. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

I was in CMC Main for brain surgery in December. I wouldn't go anywhere else. And no Ani I wasn't normal before I went in & I'm the same way.

My husband and I have been in both Presby Main and CMC Main and we much prefer CMC. I was also in CMC University and was very pleased with the care.

I should say, however, that we complained about the orthopedic care at Presby Orthopedic when my husband had his hip replacement there. The nursing staff was extremely harsh and uncaring. The care was MUCH improved when he had his shoulder replaced a year and a half later. We were told that we were not the only ones to complain and that changes had obviously been made.

My little secret...I always try to get info out of professionals when I have opportunity. You never know when you are going to need ... a good lawyer...neurosurgeon... psychologist... stockbroker ...etc. I have found that the best reference for these types of professionals are people in their field. If you find someone you trust....ask them for their recommendation. I always ask nurses, doctors, and EMTs (especially EMTs...they deal with trauma everyday) where they would take THEIR OWN CHILDREN (it is ALWAYS the same response when it comes to hospitals in Charlotte - CMC Main for children in an emergency). Talk to the nurse and Doc at your pediatricians office see what they say (better if they are not affiliated with a certain hospital).
