You looking near Northlake? There are some spots to avoid but some that are great.

Plaza Midwood sounds perfect for you. Lots of young, single, professionals and within price range. I know that they've recently built up a lot of new apartments in NoDa as well but not sure about the pricing. NoDa would give you access to the Light Rail that opens up later this year for quick commuting to Uptown.
