I just got offered a job in uptown CLT. I am going to be right out of college relocating to CLT from a smaller NC city that is upscale, but lower living costs. Southpark reminds me a lot of home, but I don't know if I can afford the a 1 bedroom in Southpark. I've found one bedrooms in Southpark as low as $1150. Is that a normal rate across all nice, safe areas for a 1 bedroom or is that high because Southpark is desirable? Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look to get a nice place that is safe for a single female with similar Southpark town center type feel? I know I can move to Matthews or other suburbs later when I have a family and kids, but apartments seem to be limited out that way. All suggestions appreciated. Also, Southpark seems like a very easy commute which is also something I'm aiming for.

You can get safe-nice 1 bedrooms in Charlotte for as little as $900/month (though you probably won't find that price in Southpark). Anything below $900/month is not upscale. Below $700/month and you're in the hood to be honest.

Thank you. Yes, I'm trying to stay around $950 for base rent. Would you recommend any areas with about the same commute time as Southpark to uptown that aren't quite as prestigious as SP but still very safe and more upscale? What about Ballantyne? I have found that apartments in Ballantyne are a little less

Take a look in/around Plaza Midwood, Sedgefield and Park Road. You can easily find something in those areas in your price range and gain personality and character in your neighborhood.

You can also look outside of 485 around Mt. Holly/Huntersville (Mountain Island Lake area.) Easy commute uptown and will probably be cheaper. Charlotte is quite safe, you don't need to be in South Park or Ballantyne to achieve safety.

If you're looking for upscale, you're going to have to pay for it in Charlotte.

Ballantyne isn't a good commute to uptown. Maybe somewhere like the Strawberry Hill apts which are not quite SouthPark but still in a desireable area of South Charlotte could work.

I suggest Southend. It is on the rail and walkable to downtown. You will find accommodations at the rate you quoted without much hassle. Good luck. Seriously, Southend has it all and many people your age. It is also relatively safe there. Tons of apartments there and tons being built.

Suggest you find a roommate. Will be safer and cheaper and you won't be as lonely.

I would look at Birkdale Village in Huntersville for comparison. It has a town center and apartments and a reasonable commute.

Is South Charlotte the really only 'safe' area? I've been told by multiple people to only look there but there seems to be nice places in Northlake
