As somebody that lives in Charlotte and who is an immigrant, I hope they tell them to take a hike.

Little shocked it was as high as 54,000 to be honest.

Like all major cities, I'm pretty sure Charlotte is a sanctuary city. The city gov't will have to pay for the immigrants deportation proceedings.

I am very surprised at that number of illegal immigrants in Charlotte. People that are here illegally have no right to make demands. I believe we are in for a very interesting few years.

The number of illegals in Charlotte nearly equals the combined population of Tega Cay (9,600), Fort Mill (13,600), Pineville (8,400) and Ballantyne (23,500).

I hope the city has the guts to stand up for the law. Funny how certain factions only want to acknowledge laws that suit themselves.

More power and good luck to proper immigrants in the US. Goodbye to the illegals.

It would surprise me if the NC General Assembly gave any city in NC the ability to declare itself a sanctuary city. Furthermore in Charlotte the jails and courts are county organizations, not city controlled. Mecklenburg county is not a sanctuary county.

If this is indeed true about Charlotte, expect the GA to quickly change it if they adopted any policy that protected the illegals from ICE.

Except that she has nothing to do with it.

It would be more important to understand the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's position. They control prisoners once arrested. As far as I know, they have been doing what ICE tells them to do.

The Sheriff is an elected position which does not report to the Charlotte city government. Anyone arrested in Huntersville, Davidson, Cornelius, Pineville, Matthews, Mint Hill and the county goes to jail there too.
