Here in NJ we have state websites that we can use to do it all on our own, does anyone know if there's anything similar for North Carolina? I'm planning on starting a business there.

Thanks,
Dan

You can go to the Secretary of State's website for information about forming a corporation in NC. I think you just need to print the form, fill it out and then mail it to the office in Raleigh.

You can use any of the websites. They just ask you what state and tailor it from there.

It is very easy, Jut download the paperwork off the state website and send it in with a check for I think $123-135, something liek that anyway and you will get your info back in a few weeks. Id recommend calling to follow up after about a week or so to make sure they get it.

I think you will need to get a EIN or a TIN from the IRS first, and once you get your LLC paperwok back from the state , then you can open a checking account in the business name,

You will also need to get a Busniness License in the counties you will be doing business in. Most small business may not think of this but there is a pretty large fine if you do get caught doing business in certain counties without a license. They are good for one year in each county. Dont confuse the LLC paperwork for a license to do business. You can just go to the local city office and pick it up. They are usually around $35 each. The start up cost can be a little heavy, but once you are up and running, most small businesses do well in The charlotte area. People are pretty supportive of local BIZ. Good luck to you

You can obtain your business license prior to getting a LLC, but will you have to change or purchase a new business license once you become LLC?

How long is the process to become LLC?

A business license in Charlotte, starts at $50, but will be prorated if you obtain it after July ( I received mine in February and only paid $25). If your business is expected to make over a certain amount your business license fee will increase.
