Driving home about 4:30 this afternoon there was a tornado spotted (apparantly) in Lancaster County which was heading for Union County.
Then around 5pm heard on the radio that the Matthews/Mint Hill area was the "hot spot" for tornado potential. I was really nervous because at that time I was on 485 in Concord heading towards the Matthews area....didn't spot any tornadoes, but the wind and rain was rediculous....
Wacky weather......kinda cool...

My bf was up in a hotel in Matthews and called me. The power was out for a little bit and he said it just showed up and was definitely spinning. He was thinking how "great" it would have been to have traveled 800 miles to get sucked away...LOL

I live between Carmel Country Club and Quail Hallow Country Club and around 8ish or so I heard a noise I have never heard before. It was a very loud woooooooshing noise for about 2 minutes. We also had some hail for about the same time...don;t know how big...no desire to stick my head out hte window!
Walked outside to get the paper this morning...I have about a 16" diamater cedar tree broken in half...and this tree was very healthy (not dead wood). Also my daughters large plastic slide (probably weighs 40 lbs) "moved" about 8 feet across my yard.
I doubt is was a torondo...but I don't doubt is was down burst.
If only ya'll could have seen my wife and my face's for about a minute last night.

Very windy and lots of rain near Albemarle. We didn't lose power but you could hear things beating against the house and the rain was pouring down--sideways. Didn't hear anything like a freight train but it did sound like tree branches hitting the outside of our house and the windows were shaking. My cats were very aware that something was going on outside! Checked the yard today and doesn't look like to much damage but lots of water still standing. It all seemed to calm down between 11:00-12:00 pm.

Heard it too - very scary for a minute there. We lost power immediately and it didn't not come back on until 2 o'clock this morning - at which time I had to get up and go around turning off all the lights - we were lit up like a Christmas tree, lol!
