As to the above quote, I agree. And it's what makes Charlotte so *very* different than any other place i've ever lived. In NY, there's a mix (balance) of people from all over the world - including those from Eastern Europe. I haven't come across notable numbers of residents from Russia, Poland, etc.
The other thing I find unusual: the shops in CLT that cater to Italian tastes, are, more often than not, owned by non Italians.
I can find Italian baked goods in the Triad; on the coast, but I can't find any (authentic) Italian baked goods here.
