laying sod. would it just be stupid to do this now? (Matthews: house, neighborhood)

i REALLY want grass in my back yard. everytime it rains, we have mud. i hate it. there's no way to predict how this spring/summer will go regarding rain fall. but one things for certain, we probably won't be allowed to water lawns again.
do you think laying sod would be a dumb decision right now? we'll be getting Bermuda sod for our back yard b/c it'll hold up better for our dog. i'm not sure how draught tolerant that type is though.
You need to areate and go to Organic Plant Healthcare The store is in Matthews and they will tell you everything you need to know about establishing a healthy lawn. I would stay away from sod because of water restrictions, but seeding your yard will likely be most successfull with the rain we will be getting in spring. The organic products will help you change and enrich your soil with the lost microbial life and as a result make your grass more drought resistant.

I came from texas where bermuda grass is pretty much the standard due to limited rain all summer long. It held up well through alot of dry seasons, had our builder not sodded our backyard it would be my first choice... but we're stuck with fescue.
All that said, I think its a roll of the dice because you can bet on continueing water restrictions. Personally, I would try to seed with bermuda... its such an aggressive grass the way it grows outward you should be able to have success with it relatively quickly (of course its far from "instant yard" which sod provides).
One thing to research though, I think you may be able to do some watering in most areas if it's a "new lawn". At least that is what I have heard and I have seen builders in my neighborhood running sprinklers at night to establish some new lawns.
If the current water restrictions hold throughout the year, it definitely will be a roll of the dice how grass will hold up. Bermuda is more drought resistant than fescue, however its a different look obviously. I'm not a "bermuda" guy, myself.
My grass looks very good right now (fertilized, lymed, etc). I'm just hoping we keep getting those drenching rains every so often....
I honestly don't know what the right answer is right now. We're all kind of in a "holding pattern" w/the water restrictions....
They are laying our sod in the next week or so, Bermuda grass. They are only going to water it for the first 30 days, then we are on our own. Hopefully we will get allot more rain like we got earlier this week, without the damaging winds

Who is "they"? Are they using the thier own water?
Also, I was going to plant my grass this weekend but now they are calling for Snow. Will the cold weather hurt my grass seed? Perhaps I should wait.....
I'm not a Bermuda fan either actually, but that's what they say will hold up the best against dogs. My boxer is leaving yellow spots all over our backyard, which is mostly fescue right now. The fescue just isn't strong enough. I like the look at feel of fescue better, but if it will only die then its not an option for us

I have fescue now but I had Bermuda in our last house, our dog is also leaving dead spots on the lawn everywhere she wets.. I was told this is very common in female dogs. When we had Bermuda in our last house I had this same problem so I don't think its just with fescue grass.
Our builder laid sod back at the first of the year and with all the rain and such it has taken pretty well. They also paid a company to come out and water once a week.
