I will say you won't find 300K in Union County in the Marvin, Cuthbertson or Weddington areas. However, there are other fantastic schools and areas in UC in that range. Personally, I was always more concerned with solid elementary schools. If the kids don't get a good start to build off of, it will be difficult to catch up. Re-districting schools is common in UC.

True. I didn't see the $300K criteria. Although there are some homes in Somerset for under $350K.

For $300K or less, I would look at Indian Trail (Porter Ridge) area. You might also look in Matthews at the Butler school area. South Meck might also be a possibility.

Thanks. We are visiting this upcoming weekend. Meeting with a realtor on Friday for areas south of Charlotte, and Saturday for areas north. Of my most recent research, Fort Mill is enticing. I am super excited for our trip. We will have the kids in tow. Any suggestions for restaurants or must see areas of town of a good sample of the culture in either area?

If your going to be in Fort Mill area, check out Local Dish. The Flipside in Rock Hill is also good!

On the northside, SO much good food in the Davidson area. Kindred, Pickled Peach, and Fork are really yummy. If you wanted to dine lakefront, check out Port City Club and North Harbor Club, especially for a nice lunch by the lake.

Visit the schools you are interested in and meet with the administrators. You can't go by ratings only. Some schools have a "lock down" feel and some are more welcoming...YMMV
