My nephew works for them. I'm aware that there have been a lot of layoffs, even for engineers. Curtis Wright has facilities in Gastonia & Shelby.

Brendan, what town are you from? Depending on what part of Connecticut you're from I could make some rough comparisons like, "Huntersville is sort of like Cheshire" or "Matthews is a little like Unionville", etc.

If you're looking for an area that has an active "downtown" and still within a reasonable commute distance, Rock Hill may be worth investigating as well. Do you have school age kids?

Your budget as others have mentioned will work well in some areas, and not so much in others. South Carolina taxes being lower may extend your budget a bit as more can go to mortgage and less to taxes.

Definitely visit and take a look around. I worked in Rock Hill, live in Indian Land, and now work in Ballantyne so am pretty familiar with the South Charlotte area if you have any questions.

I grew up in Middlebury, so I would like to live in a town like that. if you are unfamiliar with middlebury, it is similar to Cheshire, but would also like things nearby like Waterbury has. mall, shopping, groceries, etc
