Default Anyone notice roaches in stonecrest near Dean and Deluca?

During the summer i noticed roaches outside in stonecrest near the fountain. I guess they are called palmetto bugs but they are still nasty. I just hope they are not in all the restaurants in that area.

They are everywhere. You just have to be diligent if you find them anywhere around your house and call the exterminator . . . no one's home is immune from them . . . has nothing to do w/ how clean you are . . . they come into the house through cracks, through plumbing, in boxes, etc. It is very rare that someone lives here several years and never sees a palmetto bug on their property. If you get an exterminator - or are diligent about spraying your own property (and eliminating moist areas, as that is where they like to hide out) you will lower the chances you ever encounter a palmetto bug . . . but no reason to freak if you do.

Do you use an exterminator? We spray all around the perimeter of the house ourselves. Well, okay, DH does it.

We did not have any the first year we were here, then some showed up in the laundry room the second year . . . since then we spray and we have not seen them.

we ditched the bug man...and now buy Boric Acid. Just sprinkle a little around the outside of the house...and no palmetto bugs, silverfish, or ants....and it's a whole lot cheaper (Wal-Mart).

Okay - that is just too easy, LOL. If DH were not snoring, I would tell him about this right now!! I will write it down and put it on the list for the next WM run.

Thank you so much, LtC.

ani - The first time I saw a "palmetto bug" aka an American Cockroach, I had just moved into an apartment in Lexington KY. They are huge! I thought it was the cross between a mouse and an alien. Thank God for the large can of Raid I had. I think the thing screamed as I sprayed it. I've never seen one down here yet, and I'm not looking forward to any encounters - "close or otherwise". Although, looking on the bright side, if I ever get one in the house, it will provide the cats with several hours of entertainment before it meets its untimely end! Quark, my 18 pounder is the nemesis of all insect life!

I seen them before, but it's nasty when your eating in that area. The restaurants should get together and try to get rid of them.

I was eating at a restaurant one evening. I looked up & there was a big palmetto bug on the ceiling. I told my waiter who told the owner. Much to my dismay the owner got a broom & stood on a chair & knocked it off the ceiling. He then proceeded to chase it & crush it under his shoe. Dinner theater at its best I suppose.
