55+ Communities
Can anyone recommend nice 55+ communities or safe condo communities in the Charlotte area. I'm considering relocating to Charlotte from NJ and am hoping my parents will also make the move. They will not need to work so commuting to the downtown area will not be important for them, however since my husband and I will likely choose to live within a relatively short commute, would like to have my parents fairly close by. Any suggestions?

There is a nice 55+ community being built on the south Side of Charlotte. Talk to S.Charlotte and Union on here I believe her parents are building there.

I think it's called "Sun City" just over the SC line in Lancaster? Supposed to be really nice.

Sun City Carolina Lakes in suburban Lancaster County. They're already talking of building another one in the Charlotte metro since this one's been so successful. Good luck!!!

I think you are speaking of Four Seasons at Gold Hill (located in Fort Mill) by
K. Hovnanian. It is for active adults, 55 and over.
There are also some ranch condos and homes being built in Tega Cay as well...(unrestrcited). The one name escapes me right now..but the other is called Calloway Village in Tega Cay.

F.Y.I.
I had my parents move out to the Carolina's not long after we arrived. We live just across the stateline in SC (outside of Charlotte) and I had to do alot of research prior to their move. So one thing I might bring up to you (or to your parents) is Health Insurance. More than likely they are covered by Medicare. But if they have or need a supplement to their Medicare....my suggestion would be for them to stay in NC versus SC. Not to get into all the detail here...but this is why my parents live in Charlotte, NC vs. SC. If you need more info feel free to send me a PM.

Sun City is virtually sold out. I have neighbors that are attempting to move there, and they are on a very long wait list. Also, the homes there are quite expensive, which surprised me. They were talking about 350-500k homes. So, if your parents can't swing that price point, you might want to look elsewhere, or at least get yourself on the wait list.

Actually Sun City is not sold out. There is a wait list to build, but there will be 4000 homes in there. They also have some inventory homes as well. My parents home will be done first quarter 2007 They are very excited about it. Let me know if I can help.
