Default Stepson coming to visit for SpringBreak--What to do?

Hi Folks!

My 11 yr old stepson is coming to stay with us down here around the end of March, as we're in W. Meck. He's very busy at his home in VA, but when he comes down here, he always seems bored, as none of his friends of here. Any ideas on some fun things to do around the area? (besides Carowinds, which we'll do this summer, and darned Discovery Place won't open til 2009)

Thanks!!!!!!

Go to Sports Connection on 521 and Ardrey Kell. They have laser tag, arcade games, bowling. That should keep him occupied

Do you belong to a YMCA? If not, consider joining - the programs are wonderful and would definitely help keep a young man busy - and offer opportunities to meet more kids his age.

Got to take him to the whitewater park if it is open. He is eleven. He will keep himself busy and probably will not want to hang with adults. Don't know your situation or where he lives in Va, but if you have the time, you might want to take him to the beach for a day or two. The main thing to remember is that a kid that age is going to ***** and complain aout being bored regardless. Rent some good DVDs, but don't dwell on the situation. He'll adjust.

I too was going to suggest the Whitewater center...the other place you might check into is the Schiele Museum https://www.schielemuseum.org/

Do you know what he likes to do when he is as home...that might help to provide you with more suggestions?...as I have that same age group in my household.

He likes video games (of course), board games, lacrosse, science stuff, skateboarding, outdoor stuff. He's been to the whitewater center and loves it, but it can get pricey.....

I tried to keep in mind where you are located..yet some will be a little further away.

In addition to the other two places I suggested above..he may be interested in the following:

(for outdoors)
Kings Mountain State Park
Crowders Mountain State Park
Latta Plantation (Carolina Raptor Center)
Anne Springs Close Greenway
Lazy 5 Ranch

(Video Games/Board Games)

Above Board Games (Above Board Games) Fort Mill, SC
Gamers Edge Cyber Cafe (Gamers Edge Cyber Cafe - Home) Fort Mill, SC

(skateboarding)...there are others that I believe are closer to you but I thought I'd provide you with this one as well (as they have a really good rep...with the kids...and parents)

STR Stakepark (South Town Riders) Welcome to the SouthTown! Fort Mill, SC

....the last thing I was going to suggest...Volunteer Match (VolunteerMatch: Where Volunteering Begins). It is a great site that provides details on where people of all ages can volunteer...(even 11 year olds )

Hope this helps some...and best of luck to ya!

How about the Lowes Motor Speedway? Isn't there a museum there or somewhere in Mooresville. I know that there is one in Cornelius in the Liverpool area. Kids usually love anything to do with racing.
