We're thinking to go for a day trip to CLT tomorrow, in case there are any further suggestions.

Am considering roles at Wells Fargo so we want to get a sense of the area where I'd be working (I don't know which office) and walk around there and maybe drive around a bit, have lunch and dinner etc. before driving back to Raleigh tomorrow evening.

Out of curiosity, why are you looking to leave Raleigh which is an up and coming city and a place many people are moving to?

Ok, just back, it was a quick trip that stated later than planned and was interrupted by that wild thunderstorm, which at one point seemed like a tornado was going to sprout.

Walked around S. Church / Tryon and points around there, nice area but I think we wandered into a less than desirable part of town, a lot of homeless and some other scary looking people on the streets. We then went to the Concord Mills Mall, the latter while huge was not to our liking. Surprising to see it packed at dinner time on a Sunday.

I will try to retrace our steps and post here, unfortunately with the time we had and the rain we didn't get to some of the excellent suggestions posted in this thread, but will next scout trip out.

This was a walk before the rain started:
First into Amélie’s French Bakery & Café Uptown,
then walked along S. College / EMLK Jr Blvd to 5th,
then over to N. Tryon to 9th,
over to N Church to S Church up to Levine Ave of the Arts,
and back to Wells Fargo Center 1 & 2.

The dire part was around Tryon and 7th/8th/9th.

Concord Mills is a tourist destination and it was raining about that time so probably why it was packed. I believe there were drag races this weekend at the drag strip not far from the mall.
