Default Charlotte Observer-"Bank jobs tough to find"

I've read many posts on this forum about just how difficult Charlotte's job market is.??? Perhaps this article is indicative of that, I don't know. One would think with 80 thousand people per year moving to the Queen city, there must be opportunities but many on this forum seem to disagree.

Here is an intersting article detailing the big slowdown. Charlotte Observer | 03/07/2008 | Big-bank jobs<br> get tougher to find

People move here hoping to get a job. They don't realize or seem unfazed by the recent craze of layoffs in banking. Last year alone, over 157,000 people in banking laid off and I believe so far for this year 63,000 (don't quote). The numbers are not over, I know many people in banking who are just waiting for the axe. Just like lotto, everyone's hoping to be a winner. There are jobs, but the market will be tough to those who are looking. It's not only the banks who are downsizing, everyone feels the crunch of the market. My suggestion to all coming, is to have a job before coming or a years salary.

Hiring freezes refer to role expansion. I worked at the bank thru several hiring freezes. If a position is approved and becomes vacant, the manager can pretty much always replace the outgoing asspciate. More often than not they do it internally but eventually someone can get in from the outside.
