We are planning to relocate to the Charlotte area this summer. We have two children in middle school. We are having a hard time finding a house. We want 5 bedrooms and a pool and prefer a neighborhood with amenities. Anyone have thoughts on Providence Downs South? We want an active community where we can meet people.
Thanks in advance!

Does commute matter at all? You're looking at a solid hour to hour-plus at rush hour into/out of uptown from there.

At the million dollar price range, you'll probably meet more people at an area country club. Home in large estate neighborhoods are usually set back far from the street, on large lots, and are self contained. Residents don't necessarily need to be friends with their neighbors. Not saying it won't happen, but most residents are probably in a club outside of the neighborhood.

Some neighbors should be able to refer you to where the community tends to be members.

It's a very active neighborhood for both kids and adults. I know they have lots of group activities at their clubhouse.

Yes commute is a factor. Would Victoria Lake be any better? That is another house we are considering but there are no amenities.

Where is the commute to? Uptown Charlotte, University City, SouthPark, Ballantyne, Steele Creek, Fort Mill, Gaston County, Huntersville, Concord, etc...???

Also check out Ballantyne Country Club, Providence Country Club, and Longview Country Club for a 15 minute cut off the uptown commute time while still staying in South Charlotte.

Not a significant difference in drive time between Victoria Lake or PDS. Not enough to give up amenities in my opinion.

Depending on start time flexibility and driving routes the commutes can vary from 45 minutes to 75 minutes. Many people leave before 7 to beat the big rush, and I have friends that leave uptown around 4:45 to get a head start, or stay until 6:00 to let it pass.

I would look inside I-485. Time is money and I wouldn't want to waste time sitting in my car when I could be spending it with my family.
