Default another person coming down

Hello All...I used to come on this forum faithfully to do my research and then finally slowed down when the planning officially started. I don't know if any of you remember me from this time last year. Anyways, we are going down to visit from the 28-30 of this month. We will be driving down from RI to Cornelius, NC on the 27th through the night and hope to arrive there sometime around noon, give or take a couple of hours...lol. We are staying with a couple that we know that also relocated there about four years ago. We will also be visiting another family that relocated there about a year ago to Matthews, NC. Our main location to see is Concord but obviously Cornelius and Matthews will be viewed by us too and I would also like to check out Huntersville and Mooresville (particularly The Clusters).
I am coming back here because I found everyone here so helpful the first time around and now I am looking for help again. We will be officially moving down in the middle of June when the kids get out of school. I have a job already, I will be working my current job but from home which also allows me to keep my salary....
We will be renting a home or apartment but because we are a large family with pets, we are definately leaning towards a home. It is my boyfriend and I, our three kids, and my mother. We are looking for a 4 bedroom home that allows us to keep our four well behaved indoor cats. Although The Clusters is not our first pick, it does meet all our needs although it is not quite the area that I was looking for (on paper anyways). Since I am working from home, that allows us to just about land anywhere. We are hoping to settle into a family based area but we would like to try to keep our rent under $1000. Keeping those areas in mind, do you all think that is realistic or should I expect to spend a lot more. Also what areas are more likely to offer us that amount for rent?
Any and all information is greatly appreciated?

xtina

I don't think you're going to find a 4 BR anything for that price. My instincts tell me you'd probably want to up it to around 1500 a month.

Consider this I have a 2 bedroom on the SE of town and pay a little more than what you looking for. I won't say its not doable, but its going to be tough for that amount. You need to narrow down exactly where you prefer to live, thinking about schools and family friendly communities.

4 b/r home in either of the areas you mentioned will be a miracle. You are looking more in the 13250-1500 range, especially if you are in a nice established subdivision.

Should I assume that the houses we find for 1000-1350 are probably either not in the best of shape or not in the best of areas?

we just rented our house near Huntersville out for 2450.00 It's a 3 bedsroom BUT it's on the golf course. We have friends that are landords too and they have lots of houses. The rent you want to spend for that area is too low. Possibly on the outskirt by Denver close to hwy 16 and 73?? That's 15 minutes from I77 exit 25. Good Luck.

No, not exactly. You CAN get a rental home in a nice area in that price range, just not as large as you are looking for. If you could go down to a 3 bedroom you would have more luck.

I bet you'll have to go pretty far out, as in most cities the farther from the core, the more affordable. I still think you may need about $1300 to meet your needs.

Well I certainly want to have our needs met so if that means going higher, then that is what we will have to do. I think that I will look into contacting a realtor to find out if they can help me. It would be great to find a 3 bedrom with a bonus room or an office or something.

You may have better luck with that. the 3 bedroom/bonus room thing or even one with a finished basement sometimes. I am not sure a realtor will help with renting. But good luck, we'll help on here as we can.
