Looking for some recommendations for relocating to northern suburbs of Charlotte.

Within 30-45 minutes of Salisbury, NC
Excellent Schools
Low Crime
Convenient Shopping
1/2 acre lot
City water/sewer
3500+ sq ft
500k budget

Have been browsing huntersville and concord (but seems to be discrepancy of school ratings from one side of those cities to the other). Also would consider Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius. Which would you recommend?

Look at crime by zip code. It will help you pick out safe areas. Normally, safe areas equal safe schools unless there is busing. I believe that the schools that you last mentioned are generally very good.

Cox Mill High and Hough high would be my top choices.

I think I'd focus on the Cox Mill and Mooresville HS zones. I think Huntersville, Davidson, and Mooresville west of I-77 would all be 45+ minutes to Salisbury. I'd lean towards the southern part of Concord as it gets you closer to Charlotte if the job changes.

I lived in Cornelius, and later Mooresville, and commuted to Salisbury. Mooresville will only be within your time frame if you stay east of 21/Charlotte Highway. Cornelius, Huntersville, and Davidson are not within that time frame.

FWIW- I lived in Cornelius because I was moving with short notice and I could not get a safe apartment any closer. Every place had waiting lists, so I ended up renting in a brand new complex. Later, I purchased in Mooresville because of the proximity to more shopping/amenities. I regret this decision. Money goes much further in Salisbury/Rowan County and they have really progressed with their shopping options. Schools in Rowan County can be hit or miss, but if you look into schools serviced by Faith Elementary or Shive Elementary, it will be fine. There are other good elementary schools, but they typically feed to multiple middle and high schools, so where within those districts will matter more.
