I drive to uptown every day using I85 from the Poplar Tent exit. Takes me around 30 minutes to get into the office and about 30-35 minutes to get home. I leave home in the morning at 7am and leave work at 4pm. It beats my 1+ hours commute each way when I lived in Maryland and worked in DC. It also beats my 30+ minute comute when I lived in So Cal and left for work at 5AM.
We moved to Concord due to budget. I could get a house with a little bit of a yard for $185k. I dont want to be house poor since I live to travel. I'll put up with a another 10-15 commute each way to be able to do that.

Exactly. It's all relative.
I know OP hates the traffic but try DC or even Atlanta - both of which I have recently experienced along with Charlotte traffic - consider yourself lucky -unless you are retired or work from home traffic is a reality in any metropolis.
We are relocating next year to areas about 30-45 minutes from clt and I'm praying we find jobs in the smaller town we hope to find a home in. I refuse to drive in that sort of traffic. I just hope there is the possibility that hope will pan out.
Going to pipe in with a contrarian PoV of someone who spent last week scouting Charlotte for a possible relocation. We stayed in Huntersville and specifically hit 77 during rush hour on a couple occasions to get an accurate gauge of how bad traffic can be even though I'll be telecommuting.
Coming from San Antonio, it was so refreshing to actually have folks back off to let you merge in and not speed up to block you out when you turn on a turn signal (or even use turn signals for that matter).
Y'alls traffic may not be as calm as it once was, but isn't that bad at all.
You live in the DC area before you move down to Charlotte and then the traffic in Charlotte is a breeze compared to what you used to have to commute in the DC area.
That's for sure. Twenty years ago, on my first commute to the Pentagon, I "knew" there had been a catastrophic, mult-fatality wreck ahead due to the backup. Not. Business as usual.
