I grew up in NY which ideologically mirrors CA. I happen to be moderate leaning conservative so I'm enjoying the less liberal climate. That said, I agree with other posters that say that I have met people from all over the ideological spectrum and haven't had any issue with either extreme.

Wishing you the very best on your move!

I don't know if you have noticed it or not but North Carolina is a swing state. You only share politics with those people who like you no matter what. Otherwise we go vote and forget about it. Church is sometimes a different thing. Many people will invite you to church the first time you meet. They are just being friendly and helpful.

To preface my post, I am a registered independent libertarian and not a registered Republican. If you think low taxes and low cost of living isn't a product of your politics, your wrong. This reply below is very relevant to your post.

If your wanting to move here because of a lower cost of living please consider why California is so out of control with its cost of living. Its because of socialism. You can debate this all you want but I have experienced this first hand and so have millions of others. Our beloved Chicago is being destroyed by a stranglehold of corrupt and bad politics that don't work and have caused taxes to go up 10 fold since we moved 10 years ago.

So don't think that if you come here and continue to endorse the same socialism you have in CA that it won't eventually happen here.

People from NY, MA, NJ, CA etc. All vote democrat, all complain about the high cost of living and high taxes. But then they come down here and repeat the failed politics of tax and spend here in NC. Its like insanity.

None of these democrat policies work but they continue to double down and vote for the same politicians who do the same crap. Just read in the news what the liberal left have caused to happen in Illinois. A Pension system that is not sustainable and spending on government that is out of control.... but they would rather burn the state than reform. How sad. They have destroyed Illinois. Its bankrupt!

So if you move here please don't complain if you continue to vote democrat. Not saying republicans have the answer either but just look at Illinois and all the other Dem states. They are all bankrupt and its only going to get worse. Just something to consider as we like the low cost of living here in NC. Lets keep it that way. Vote independent, minimal government libertarian.

Thats not universally true, and there is very little evidence to support it. One reason many people move from the northeast to the southeast is because they are more politically conservative, especially fiscally. Look at Brunswick County, the fastest growing county in NC primarily due to retirees from the northeast. Brunswick has become much more republican over the past 20 years, to the point where it is a solid red county.

Look at the state as a whole. It has absorbed large numbers of northeastern migrants. Yet its far more republican now than in the past. And look who's been leading the charge to the political right...Pat McCrory (born in Ohio), Phil Berger (born in New York), Bob Rucho (born in Massachusetts). The meme of the liberal yankee moving to the south and recreating a liberal state is a myth.

Just to be clear, thats not the same as voting republican.

For the liberals who move to Charlotte or Raleigh yes its 100% true. I have seen it constantly and I am sure if you interviewed them they would not say they changed their voting habits a bit. It won't be a myth if the migration continues and nothing changes. Over time it will change, which is why I brought this up.

Every single one of them will complain of the high taxes and cost of living then come down here and still vote for the same democrats that have the same failed policys that put other states in the mess they are in.

Ok yes sure I am sure there are conservatives who move south because they are sick of it all but what I am saying is if you are a liberal, don't come here and vote for the same crap that has proven to fail and raise taxes in the state you just moved from.

Independents and Libertarians.....Of course they are not the same as Repubs. Most "establishment" republicans can't be distinguished much from democrats these days. They are just as much part of the problem. Looks at the healthcare debacle. They don't want it changed, they are simply RINO's.

We need a new government. Get rid of them all and lets start over. Libertarians are for much less government, and a constitutional republic...what our country was founded upon.

WRONG again. Raleigh and Charlotte use to be almost exclusively Red. Not anymore and that is because of the migration of blues. That's the trend.
