I'm wondering if UNC Hospital is in or near Chapel Hill. CMC Main takes students as residents. Hospitals in the CHS system would probably be the best bet. They're happy to do transfers to CMC Main.

UNC Hospital is indeed in Chapel Hill. It would be a long drive to take their child for regular appointments and care. Hopefully they could find a good GI in the Charlotte area to not have to drive up, but depending on how specialized the daughter's OP care is, they may need to head up to UNC Hospital if a doctor doesn't specialize in the specific type of care their child needs.

Well, getting hooked up with the doctor in Chapel Hill might get them a recommendation at CMC Main if something comes up that needs immediate care. Also, some doctors at CMC Main make trips to other facilities in the CHS system. We used to have a regular poster on here who worked at CMC Main 3 days a week, Kings Mountain 1 day, & Shelby 1 day. He lived in Cramerton.

Obviously, the OP has a lot of unusual circumstances to deal with. I'd suggest that she takes a map back to her daughter's doctor to see if a 2nd recommendation is possible. She also should be prepared for several potential locations & then go talk to school district officials to see who's willing to work with her to the best degree.

Also, if she looks at a town without a hospital in the CHS system, she will need to talk to the local hospital concerning transfers to CMC Main. I do know that before CHS bought the Cleveland County hospital system people who presented at Kings Mountain Hospital for certain things were offered a transfer to Shelby, Gaston Memorial, or CMC Main, in that order. I know someone who presented at Kings Mountain Hospital recently who was offered Shelby, CMC Main, or Gaston Memorial, in that order.

Can I just ask Levine's Children's Hospital is part of CMC yes? I am trying to look up ratings of the different specialties we will need. I guess I was under the impression that UNC Children's was closer to Charlotte. I can't see driving 2.5 hours with the frequency of specialist appointments we have, never mind if she is hospitalized so that her dad can come back and forth.

The children's hospital is physically attached to CMC Main. I suggest that you check it out on Google streetview.

OP, FYI, I have spoken of Kings Mountain because it's where I live. I am going on the assumption that other hospitals in the CHS system are equally amenable to transferring patients to CMC Main. CMC Main is the regional trauma center for the most severe cases. They have the specialists to deal with trauma. There are other hospitals in the area. If your daughter is susceptible to emergencies, proximity to a hospital that can stabilize her & whisk her off to CMC Main would be what you want. Because of your circumstances, besides talking to school officials, I'd recommend that you pay a visit to the nearest hospital near locations that you are considering buying in. You'll probably feel better.

I heard that CMC was looking for a satellite location in Gastonia a few years ago, for children. I haven't followed up on it.

Above is the link to CMC pediatric gastro. They have an office in Gastonia, which would be your go to if you decided to move to Belmont.

Belmont is cute, and has better schools than many parts of Charlotte. It would be an easy commute to the airport area (where your husband is working?) and 20 Min to CMC Main Levine Children's Hospital.

Waxhaw has great schools, but would be a long drive for your husband and probably further to Levine Children's.

It seems interesting that your broker is steering you to Waxhaw based on your husband's job location. Definitely state your needs clearly, and do some driving around yourself. Ballentyne might be an option for you as well.

Good luck.

Are there any plans to widen Providence Road (RT 16) from Rea Rd to Cutbertson Rd? This seems like it's long overdue and it would help with the increase in traffic and development. I love Lawson but the drive up the single lane to the 485 for half the route takes forever. I'm thinking about Hunter Oaks since it's avoiding that stretch of RT 16. Anyone have any experience with Hunter Oaks? I'm moving from Long Island with 3 kids aged 8, 6, 3.

If it happens, NCDOT eminent domain will begin in 2021 with construction starting in 2023.

That single lane Providence Rd it is awful, almost always busy and during traffic probably one of worst street in NC. And it gets worst with a ton of new construction below Rea Rd intersection.

At minimum they should add asap more middle lane for cars that turn left, so they don't block everybody behind for minutes...
