Back in the 80's maybe there was a tall building on Independence Blvd with reflective windows, just before you got to Albemarle Rd. I think the building is still there. Was it a bank when it was first built? Or was there a bank there in the 60's or 70's?

It may have been called the Irwin Building later in it's career, but not sure.

Maybe Dan Morrill is on this forum. Doesn't he know every old building in Charlotte by name, date, and architect??

I think you mean Independence Tower, 4801 E. Independence Road. Its just past (east) of Albemarle. It was built in 1971 or 72:

There is another office building on Independence right at Albemarle, but it doesn't have the reflective glass.

Thanks BC, that's the one!

Do you remember any of it's early history?

Seems as if I remember American Cyanamid having offices there, also I thought it was a bank at one time.

Mostly interested in finding any banking ties.

It was the Ervin Construction building. American Cyanamid bought Ervin Construction out.

Thanks Packard!
My Father worked for AC during that era, but I didn't remember the acquisition details.

Still looking for a remembrance of a bank being in the building or owning the building. Most recently Wells Fargo handled the building in receivership, but a friend believes there was a bank involved decades ago.

It was Metrolina Bank in the mid/late 70's.
