Hello!
We are heading up early '18 from South Florida and this will be my first time living in a place with actual seasons - not just unbearably hot and kinda warm.
I wanted to know if there were any expenses to expect that are different from south florida living... my friend lives in New York and they have a gas bill because of the boiler to heat the house... I don't think I've ever seen a boiler!

Thanks for any insight on what expenses to expect.

(this is our normal list of bills atm)
Rent, electric, car insurance, internet, netflix, cell phone, gas, water...

We find our gas bill goes down in summer enough to cover what our electric goes up in summer.

State income tax . But we found the rest of taxes, like property tax, a steal compared to Florida.

You'll need some cool weather clothes, but nothing too crazy. We do have a winter jacket, but it lasts several seasons as we don't have to wear it a lot. We get our son snow gear (boots, snow pants, etc) each year as we do get at least one snowfall and it is fun to play in it.

Don't recall the initial registration amounts, but recall them being extremely high and I think reflected NC's valuation of vehicles. You can research and obtain some insight via the NC DMV site https://www.ncdot.gov/dmv/moving/

It's pretty significant. On a $45k valued vehicle I just paid around $700. And that's every single year!

Granted the car will decrease in value but still it's a fee that never goes away and unlike mortgage tax it's not deductible.
