Women in the South know we need other women to get thru/ life. And what is so beautiful about that . . . we love sharing sisterhood w/ all newcomers . . . as long as they are NOT competitive!!! We are the sisters who will help you when you are sick . . . car pool w/ you . . . we will come paint the family room w/ you and help you make that pair of curtains for the nursery . . . as long as you are congenial and interested in participating in our lives on a positive note. The minute it turns into "My granite countertops are nicer than your Corian" we are out the door. We wont agonize that your house is more expensive than ours - if you are snooty about it - we won't compete. We just move on.

Sadly, I am seeing this change in young girls. I am seeing this competitive stuff seeping into groups of girls who are trying to one-up w/ expensive purses, sunglasses, etc. How silly is that.
Ani, you'll come over and make me some curtains? I knew there was a reason I like you.
You are right, young girls are getting more and more competitive everywhere. Somehow the bar has been raised.

To the OP...If you are having serious reservations DON'T DO IT; stay where you are. If your gut feeling says you wont be happy here, chances are you won't. The grass isn't alway greener on the other side. Weigh both sides of the issue and see what is really important to you then stick to it.

I agree as Ive said on the my other forum boards, if you really are unsure then dont move just yet...you have to be READY for the move if ist Voluntary, if its a transfer than I feel for those who really dont want to move and most of the time arent happy unless its a good situation for them...

We are having a house built in Lincolnton/Denver area. We love where we live in NJ but just can't afford to live here on one salary while I stay home to raise my kids. Taxes are very high. Where we live is very safe (never lock our doors) and beautiful with lots of history and close to mountains, beaches, lakes and NYC. I am so sad to be leaving such a great area. The more I read about the Charlotte area the more I am regreting our move. Just for example I looked at the sex offender registry in many of the surrounding areas and there are tons of registered sex offenders in the area. We have one (in my area which consists of 5 towns)and he is in jail (yes I know there are offenders not registered but I am just looking at what is on paper in black and white. I found nothing quaint or charming about the area. I am sorry if I am offending anyone. I know I don't like it when people knock NJ (and boy do they). We lived outside of Charleston, SC many years ago and loved it. It had the beach and beautiful, charming and quaint Charleston and so close to areas like Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach. I just don't see the appeal of the Charlotte area( again sorry if I offend anyone) What am I missing?????
I just wanted to say that I relocated to Charlotte about three years ago and I don't like living in charlotte area too much, but I do like the fact that I am very close to down town, where my husband works, and we are near all the trains and busess. But charlotte is really not a good place to live. Now you are talking about living in Denver/Linconlton, well my daughter goes to school in Lincolton and soon to be going to the Denver campus. Now Lincolton is a very small town that I find to be very prejudice against blacks while Dever is better to me. But overall both of these places has a low crime rate and is very quiet. My husband and I was actually talking about buying our next home in Denver(just a thought) because they have some beautiful homes. But I would not got to Lincolnton for free rent. I actually can't wait until my daughters is no longer goin to school there. But the moral to my story is that living on the out skirts of charlotte is much better than actually living in charlotte.

I think you will love life in Pumpkin Center Lincolton is establish city to meet your needs in life. Yet away from the Crazyness of Charlotte. My partner parents live on the north west end of Lincoln County and I love the drive up on Hwy 27 after I pass Lincolton Downtown Square. There are some beautiful homes that I pass classic victorian style.
I even like seeing the tree growing in what I believe once was a brick silo. The best part this evening is I could see the sunset at the cusp of the foothills/mountains.

We as a society seem to get hectic in our lives. Lincoln County at least west of Highway 321 of the city allows you to appreciate the smaller things and people

Now see this is why I want to move South. I live in Bergern County N.J. and am so tired of that attitude. I have been trying to keep my daughter from becoming a "Bergen County Brat". Not easy when the kids at school are getting brand new BMW's and Lexus' at 17 when they get their licenses. Hoping when she goes to college in South Carolina she will fall in with more down to earth kids. Only hope when and if I ever get to move there will still be some of that true Southern attitude left. Also wanted to let you kmoe I really enjoy your posts.
