Hi Emy, I live in Lawson and my family loves it. Lots of kids...People down here who Homeschool join the YMCA for activities and there are many kids in the area who are home schooled... Depending on where you work Lawson is not a bad commute you do not need to commute to Uptown for a job there are many Business parks in the area. I commute to South Charlotte and it would take 30 minutes or less to get to Ballantyne. Not bad at all...I hope you find the perfect community for your family. There is a house in Lawson by Orleans that is $400K and is about 3600 Sq Ft. It's very nice... If you have any other questions about Lawson please let me know...good luck |

Hi all! Wow, lots of informative stuff in this thread. Before I add my 2 cents, let me thank all of you for guiding me in my home search.
My family and I are re-locating to the Charlotte are from DC metro (Northern VA). Why? Because dh says that DC is aging us in "dog years". Here are my thoughts on what we've seen so far: 1. Demere seems to have a lot of transplants from NJ and NY. The homes are VERY close to one another compared to surrounding communities - which probably explains why folks who are used to zero lots are comfortable there. The homes also have a cookie-cutter feel to us. Narrow streets. We looked at three homes and found them all greatly lacking in character - but still nice. 2. We loved Lindenwood and nearly bought there. But, the street we were going to buy on had TWO homes in foreclosure! That's extreme for a community with only 75 homesites. One of the homes is foreclosing b/c it has become riddled with toxic mold and they can't find a source of the mold. Our guess is that the mold house will eventually sell far below property value and drag down the other home values. 3. We are going to look in Quellin, Silver Creek, Providence Glen, Stonegate, Wesley Oaks and Hunter Oaks today. I am VERY concerned about the stench in the Quellin area. Does that apply to Stonegate as well??? We love Stonegate, but now I'm nervous about my property value! 4. Do any of you ever consult zillow.com? If so, do you think it's pretty accurate? Please help! Stacy |

As a realtor here, I have seen that in many instances zillow is not accurate at all. Your best bet is to ask your realtor to provide you with a buyer CMA to help you determine what a fair offer would be. Best of luck to you, and Moderator cut: realtor solicitation. |

I live in Anklin Forrest and I am so happy to hear the great comments about where we live...I have lived in my home since AUGUST (the hottest month) in reference to the smell in the summer months and I have never been afflicted by the sewer smell. Like the gentleman said, why aren't there comments made about the Ballantyne area, and Park Road etc...why is everyone fixating on our area! Cureton is a beautiful community and I highly doubt that Signature Developers would invest the millions in building Cureton Town Center if they had any concerns about the sewage plant. They exist all over in North Carolina and I really resent the fact that everyone bashes our area. We have never had a problem and I really do not forsee a problem...Union County is a beautiful county to live in and we are extremely happy here..Our property value has also gone up since August and We are truly satisfied with our purchase.

People don't talk about Ballantyne becasue the only thing directly across the street from the plant in Ballantyne is government subsidized apartments. Cureton built expensive houses directly across the street from the plant - in fact, the plant is their view - and the plant in Cureton is way over capacity compared to the ones in Charlotte and has been dumping raw sewage into the stream, which the ones in Charlotte do not do. And the Park Rd area does stink and often. You can even smell it in Southpark sometimes.

Exactly! That is why the State of North Carolina Denied any further expansion of the plant. I could not be more thrilled that they capped it off. They are just going to have to build another one else where. I do not live in cureton but I agree that they should not have built it right across the street. Cureton has many phases and there is one small portion (smaller homes and town homes) that sit directly across from it. Cureton has 4-5 subdivisions, just a portion of one has that view. Well the planners have to go back to the drawing board and they cannot expand it..The only thing that is bothersome to me is that you mention union county and it translates to some as sewer plant. Is it really necessary? Is it really necessary to make the people who live in that subdivision feel so bad about their purchase..many of them purchased before it was expanded and we the residents put our faith in our city planners to make the right decisions, which obviously they have not..Even with it's location, it has not seemed to slow down the selling..All and all we are glad expansion of the plant has been denied..we surely do not want our streams polluted due to the overflow...I am glad they are being forced to build another facility else where, it will definitely relieve the strain that is being placed on that plant...Like I mentioned b/4 I have lived in the area since August and no regrets...it is quite, we are surrounded by farms and horses and We love it.

What do you guys think off Chatsworth on Providence Rd and Stratford Hall near Weddington-Matthews Road?

Very nice homes. Tough price point to sell right now (similar to Therrel Farms down the street). There is a lot of inventory $600K plus in this area, and these communities don't have amenities, in particular a community pool. Lately I have found that many of my buyer clients want the amenities -- even if they don't plan to use them but for resale.
