I live in Weddington and own another house in Waxhaw that is not in a development. Lawson is nice. The only other yucky thng is this area currently besides the sewer plant is that there is a power plant going in on New Town Rd right at the entrance to Stonegate - probably best not to live right by that either just to be safe.
There will also be a new subdivision going into Waxhaw down Waxhaw-Marvin Rd called Millbridge. It will probably be quite nice.

power plant?
is stonegate right near Cureton? So they are putting in a power plant next to all of these expensive homes?
it doesn't make sense...I guess every neighborhood has its issues.

12 Mile WWTP
Here is a link to the Union county Dep't of public works which details the capital requests for expansion and remediation of the treatment plant near Cureton/Quellin. Notably, pages 36, 50 and 55 detail the capital outlay already made and future projections as to cost. Also, the initial expansion and cleaning/remediation to cure/alleviate any odor problem is scheduled to be completed by this summer. I hope some find this information useful to them in consideration of their making any decision on whether to buy in the area. Best wishes to all looking to relocate. As for those already in the area - I hope to run into some of you locally! I am really enjoying our new home and love the area.

Stonegate is on New Town Rd. It is a nice subdivision that has been built out for a few years now. The county had to put the power plant somewhere so it is going in on the Wesley Chapel side of New Town Rd close to the entrance of there. We have friends that live there and love it but it has been of some controversy about the plant - it may bother some and not other - its all personal preference.
And there are TONS of neighborhoods (even new construction) around this area that are never even metioned on these boards so it does mkae it seem like there is something everywhere but that really is not the case at all.

On that note, It looks like Millbridge is the neighborhood going up right next to the private Firing/ Gun Range.

wow - these boards are so helpful! i'm glad i found this site!
i looked at a load of homes last summer - guess I was drawn to the Lawson community because of the beauty of the area - it wasn't "nuked" - the trees are still there! Coming for So Fla - I want some NC atmosphere~!
I also liked the sense of community there - I have 2 boys `11 and 9 - and hope they find some nice friends to ease the move.
I'm going up in 2 weeks to look again and nail down a home.
One thing - the home i saw last summer - St lawrence builder in lawson - is still available - is that a good thing?

The only thing I have heard lately about Lawson is ther was a big article in the County Edge about the current residents of Lawson being irrate about the fact that they are paying for amenities that not only do they not have yet but the developer can't get permits to start building (due to county sewer limitations). Obviously some day this will get resolved but that is all I know as of recent. The residents are also upset over changing lot sizes and they are only making 4 miles of trails instead of 9 - so there has been some false promoting/advertising on the part of the builders/developer. I would get a copy of that article of you can before you contract just so you know what's been going on if that interests you.

I live in Lawson. The building permit was issued a few days ago, and the developer says the amenities (pool, etc.) should be usable by July. Also, they told residents that it was a "typo" regarding the 9 miles of walks. They say the diagram showing the walks is correct, but the "wrong" scale was used in calculation, and it really, truly is 4 miles.
All in all, I love Lawson and am not terribly upset by either of these developments. BTW, I'm in a St. Lawrence home, and a couple of units on my block were purchased and then backed out, so they're now spec homes.

Out of curriocity, what is the price range on those homes? My wife and I liked Lawason, however, homes are 100K out of our price range.
