You guessed wrong. If you're going to fund something with tax dollars, at least make it profitable and BETTER than what it replaced. By better I mean more capacity along with the other little amenities like luxury boxes and such.
What's to say that a large chunk of those 80,000 parking spots won't be built over when somoene decides the offer is right for their parking lot? Lose 200 spots and create a need for 500 spots.
The old arena was the 2nd biggest NBA arena in the country...you want it even bigger? What would be the reasoning for that? Bigger <> Better. Look at what every other NBA city is doing...creating smaller arenas, not bigger.
In the past 10 years I would love to get a number of sold out events at the old arena. Other than a few big time concerts, I doubt many at all.
And for the parking...as long as there is 80,000+ people working uptown, there will always be ample parking for 18,000. Almost all of the new parking being created under skyscrapers/buildings. If we start losing our towers, we have more to worry about than where to park.
The new arena is better than the old one. So you don't think govco should support building sports arena, yet you have patronized two in Charlotte? Seems hypocritical to me. By the way, I think most people would agree that CBA is better than the shell that was the CC.

I agree and Uptown is where it all needs to be. Baseball, Football, Basketball. Like in most cities!
I don't think we lived here when the debate was going on about building the new arena. If we did, we were too new to even care. That being said, I'm glad it was built. They do host some nice events at reasonable prices. I like being right near other places when the event is over. We also like to go to Blumenthal. The shows are fun and the location is great too. In sum, I like having these entertainment venues right in the thick of uptown. I don't think I would care for going over to the old Coliseum.

I don't think it's hypocritical at all. Just because you voted against or do not support public money going to shiny new things, doesn't mean you can't use the facilities once govco spends your money. After all, it's still your money whether you agree or disagree. Secondly, I have no control where concerts and events are scheduled to perform. I'm going to see the performer and I don't care where the venue is--I'm not going to see the building that's hosting them. I haven't been to an event at CBA and I don't approve on how it got here--but that doesn't make me hypocritical for using the facility. I have no choice in the matter if I want to see the show, and again, it's my money that built the place anyway.
I drive in from N. Meck. to the arena and have found parking in South End (or other locations nearby) and taking the light rail to work out great. The cost is cheaper than parking and it stops right at the arena. Often, we'll have a nice dinner in the East Blvd. area first. Just a suggestion. (Disclosure: I completely opposed the use of taxpayer dollars to help fund the light rail and the arena, but, if I'm paying anyway, I might as well get some use out of it).
