You know, these thugs may have found golf courses are gold mines!!!! Just think - GPS units . . . cells . . . blackberries . . . possibly golf clubs or other sports equipment . . . coolers . . . CDs . . . DVD players . . .
I wonder if these guys are going to go from one golf course to another. Once the damage is found and CMPD is called in . . . and people become more wary . . . they move to another course. They may be working their way around the whole city.
I would have assumed people would notice someone "out of place" wandering around the parking lot at a golf course. Seems our society is getting to the place that we need security cameras EVERYWHERE.
I am sooooo sorry Eman.

ani... at first I was perplexed as to how they gained entry....car gets locked 10,000 out of 10,000 times I get out of it. there was no broken glass so I assumed they jimmied the lock. it wasn't until I was on the phone with the police that she suggested I look at the actual lock where you put your key (I have never used it, I have remote entry like most cars do). ran out to the car and sure enough, the lock was pushed in. have you seen 'no country for old men'? that freaky device the dude used is probably what these A-holes are using, or something similar. but I really don't know. it looked to be a very quick job with very little mess.

OMG - you mean it is not even noticeable!!!!??? Yes, I bet hardly anyone uses an actual key to unlock or lock their car doors anymore (well, I have an ancient Benz and it does not have remote entry!!!!)
I have not seen "No Country for Old Men" but I am writing it down as one I need to check out, LOL.
Sounds to me like someone knew exactly what he/she was doing and probably moves VERY FAST.
OH!!!! And you know what? Your car alarm did not go off, either!!!! Aren't car alarms supposed to go off if the lock is messed with???
This makes me sick. I swear . . . someone needs to invent something that will send an electric volt through an intruder when someone tries to break in a car!!!!!!

ani- car alarm? I have a 98 chevy blazer (I know, settle down ladies...it's a chick magnet) and I couldn't imagine someone would want to steal it or any of the junk in it (they took a half case of WATER!). a few things:
1) u must see the movie. it's not optional.
2) would keeping a pit bull in the car make a good alarm? would it be cruel to leave one in the car through a 4.5 hour round in the middle of the summer?
3) barndog- I have similar dry humor that isn't always the timeliest and quite often gets me in trouble so I could easily relate to your comments, no worries.
4) I appreciate everyone's concern.
5) I'm not trying to cause fear, but I think it would be difficult to convince me there isn't a crime problem here.

I have been here almost a year and though I haven't commented about it, my family has personally experienced more than a fair share of crime here. The same thing happened to us 2 days after I moved here. My husband had already been living here for 6 weeks. When I moved here, I met him for dinner after he got off work, & then we were planning to go furniture shopping. His work truck was broken into in the same manner at the restaurant, and he didn't notice it until we got to the furniture store. His computer was hidden too. I wonder if these criminals who pop locks go for certain types of vehicles. He drives a Ford, and I have to say that the locks on it do look kind of flimsy compared to other vehicles. What kind of vehicle do you drive, eman?

1.Will get the movie. PROMISE!
2.Yeah, a pit bull would do it . . . you could leave the windows half way down, LOL. Heck, you wouldnt have to even LOCK your car!!!
3. You and Barndog are gonna keep things hopping on this forum . . .
4. We are all mortified
5. I, for one, am taking this all quite seriously.
PS. Eman - all women know a REAL MAN doesn't need a chick magnet car.

FLtoNC, not really sure about flimsy locks, I'm gonna have to say that it's the HIGH CRIME rate and not potentially flimsy locks I'm concerned about. I have a 98 chevy blazer. I'm poking around and found this:
The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB®) has compiled a list of the 10 vehicles most frequently reported stolen in the U.S. in 2005. - 1991 Honda Accord
- 1995 Honda Civic
- 1989 Toyota Camry
- 1994 Dodge Caravan
- 1994 Nissan Sentra
- 1997 Ford F150 Series
- 1990 Acura Integra
- 1986 Toyota Pickup
- 1993 Saturn SL
- 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup
I was surprised, or disappointed to see dodge ram on the list, cause I've been considering buying one of those sweet looking trucks but now I have to strongly reconsider buying anything new or nice if the break-in rate is so high here.

OH wow. I had no idea car break-ins were so prevalent. Did your break-in happen in day, also?
Something just hit me! Did your car have out of state license tags?????
Edited: My Yankee DH just reminded me no one says license tags but locals, LOL - "license plates"

I know, a real man like me (who happens to be single with boyish good looks, a herculean figure, steady job, new in town and looking to meet women*) doesn't need a fancy car to get the babes, but it never hurt either.
Oh, um, I'm sorry, this isn't a dating site? Darn, what were we talking about, oh yeah that's right. CRIME. grimey bastards broke into my damn car.
*ok, so not much of that is true, other than the being single and having a job part. did I mention that I can bench press 200 pounds?

Absolutely not. Real men go with the "baby in the stroller" or the "walking the puppy" approach.
