This thread has brought back lots of memories. Like the family from MA who moved into our restricted neighborhood and thought they were on a farm because they had two acres of land. Why would anyone move to a NASCAR country and think anyone would be interested in a ball team. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recently was found to be the second best bargain in colleges and universities when comparing the education costs to the quality of education. I think it counts as a university. Our church has a very active singles group. If you are a single in Charlotte and have not found friends, maybe you are looking in the wrong place. Sunnykayak recently listed an entire page of things to do in and around Charlotte for anyone who lives here.

I might agree with the last sentence, but not if you're making this all as one point together. There are singles moving to Charlotte that don't go to church. Many more Jewish people are moving to the area, and then there are others who just don't go. An active singles group in a church won't help them. Maybe the JCC has a group, but Jewish singles moving down will still be very much in the minority. I have defended Charlotte on here, and I have not defended Charlotte on here. I will never say Charlotte is a good place for singles. I would not want to be single in Charlotte. That's just my opinion.

I just don't get it! If you don't like living someplace...MOVE!!! Charlotte is an awesome city! Im an average middle class Joe, living in an average middle class house, and living the average middle class life, and loving it! Whoever says there is no culture has obviously never been to any of the Blumenthal productions- they change regularly, and the venues are beautiful! There's the Museum of the New South. The Mint Museum. Discovery Place. Still in the Metro area is the Stowe Gardens. The Schiele Museum. We have 2 pro sports teams- Bobcats Arena is a true asset. All in all, while Charlotte does have some downs, I certainly feel there are FAR more ups!

Again, you apparently don't know where to go. Being single in Charlotte is great and I for one NEVER go to church.

Please be more specific...
I think when you post a postive or a negative you really have to be more specific.
For the single people who have "nothing to do in Charlotte" --- exactly what do you want to do? What do single people do today to have fun?
I am from Brooklyn, NYC and grew up going to Manhattan. Played there, worked there, ate there for 25 years and loved it! But I am 41 now and married 13 years with 3 kids. I am moving to Charlotte for the "slow, boring pace." That's what I need right now. You cannot compare the two cities. You can't even compare Brooklyn to Charlotte.
If you want action and adventure go back to NYC! It's the city that never sleeps.
I have not moved yet, but in only 3 trips to Charlotte I am truly impressed with the people, culture, activities for families, scenery. Can't wait for the job transfer to kick in.
To each his own...

I don't need to know where to go. But from reading other threads here and talking to people, Charlotte is not a great place to be single and searching. If in fact SO MANY of these people "don't know where to go", then that only goes a step further in proving that point.

That's what everybody says. See if you feel the same way when you live in the city, as opposed to visiting three times. It's not the same thing.

I totally agree with xrayness. Both Charlotte and Raleigh are on the list of Best Cities for Singles in Men's Health and AOL as well as USA Today yearly.
State a specific problem with being single in this city. Otherwise assume it may just be you.
