Why is that? I can't talk based on what I see and hear from other people in the area?

One of the biggest problems I've seen around here is that "difference of opinion" always seems to equal "bad info"

My personal experience in Charlotte is that I'm here temporarily because of my business. I don't live here continually, and I'm not staying, but my business puts me in a position where I am constantly talking to people in the area. I'm relaying what they have told me. That info is just as good as your info. You just don't agree with it.

Basically, people who whine and complain about how "bad it is for singles" are people who can't grasp the fact that the only common denominator in their failed relationships is THEM. Blaming a city that is full of professionals who are single is RIDICULOUS. Of course this board welcomes what you've heard but unless it is your direct experience (and please keep in mind you have offered no specifics, just that you "hear it's bad for singles") then yes, you may indeed be getting bad info and relaying that info to newcomers on this board.

That's a huge problem on this forum. If you say anything that's not glowingly positive then there is something wrong with you or your information.

Anyway, I agree with you about single life in Charlotte. If I was single, I'd have moved to Austin or San Diego. It's not that "single life" is terrible here, it's just there are much better places to be.

I also agree with your assessment of Men's Health. Their rankings of anything are worthless. It's hardly a scholarly journal. I remember a few years ago they ranked the "dumbest cities in America" or something like that. It turns out that one of the cities in the top 5 had the one of the highest numbers of patents per capita of any city in the U.S. Their research is shoddy and their judgment criteria is very narrow. I certainly wouldn't base my opinion of anything on that rag.

Hey, you know what else is a HUGE problem on this forum? People who say things like "Charlotte is bad for singles" without giving examples as to WHY.

I grew up in Charlotte
I met my husband of 12 years in a bar in Charlotte
I have been single in Charlotte and I have had children in Charlotte-not much difference in anywhere else
I don't care for sports but Charlotte does
I don't mind all the banks on each corner, I don't go to them.
I rarely go uptown (and you must say uptown Charlotte...never downtown)

I see Charlotte as a city trying to be alot like Atlanta. I don't know why, though. We have traffic problems.
We have crime.
We have everything every city has.

I would dissagree with the opinion of Charlotte being a vapid non-socially/culturally inclined city.

There are social gatherings all over Meetup: World's largest community of local Meetups, clubs and groups! throughout the Charlotte area, many of which are geared to new citizens of the area to meet new people and socialize.

I've only really been in the area in short stints (I'm officially a Ballantyne resident come January)....but even in those small amounts I'm amazed how cordial people in the area are.

Compared to the hell I live in now (Pennsylvania), it was a welcome and wanted change.

So, just to voice my opinion on what I've noticed coming from the dead and decaying northeast, Charlotte was a much better city when it came to economy, cost of living, social behavior, etc.

take care,

Ryan

i cannot believe that charlotte is that bad because when i am there the people are friendly. my point is with a city that friendly how can you not meet singles who are willing to make a kinship. the northeast is cold and businesslike. i been to charlotte plenty of times and can not believe this story. i am married so you might think i am talking junk but really i think some of you need to look in the mirror and take some of the blame.

Default What do singles want?

I am still waiting to hear what singles want from a city...specifically what do you want Charlotte to offer? If you list it on this forum someone will steer you in the right direction. If not, then it is on you.

If you are not happy here, you can leave but don't blame the city with plenty of possibilities for your unhappiness.
I agree. My wife, baby and I stayed at the Omni hotel downtown and visited the Discovery building and the downtown library. It was great!!! My wife is a librarian and i am in the intel. business. We plan to move to Charlotte if i can find a job in the area. We loved the parks and the whole downtown feel. Nice place.
