Need advice, relocating from Long Island to Union County
I think I would like to purchase west of 74 in Indian Trail. I looked into the schools and a few of the communities. I hope this isn't a mistake....
I'm looking for a community that is extremely family oriented . I would like my 9 year old little sweet girl to find her new childhood friend and my 6 year old son to be able to run up to the field and hit some balls with his friends. (keeping up with the Jones' is not my idea of fun). I like Brandon Oaks, Taylor Glen, and Shiloh, but I'm not crazy about the year round school, but I will to give it a try. My biggest concern, being from Long Island are overhead power lines.
Can anyone tell me about these communities and if power lines run over them. If you have any advice, please I'ld like to hear it from someone who lives there. Rather than reading #'s off charts.. Thanks

joanne - Very few of the Union County schools are year round. I know a few people from LI that live in Brandon Oaks and love it. Brandon Oaks is huge tho' -almost a town within a town. I don't remember seeing the overhead power lines there, but I haven't been through it in a while! You'll love it down here!

Hey, that's the reason I moved down here too! I want my 1 year old son to be able to playball in a field and hunt for Frogs, that sort of thing! Also loved getting away from those TAXES! I love seeing Deer (and my kids love it even more) running thru our neighborhood. Just saw 4 yesterday in my neighbors backyard.

Starting the next school year, those 3 communities will be going to the new Sun Valley elementary, which is supposed to start off on a traditional schedule. Don't know if it will change to year round though. Check out Brook Valley right across from Shiloh. Great community with lots of kids and no power lines.

joanne, I recommend that you join UnionCountyMommies.com--Union County, NC's Mom-to-Mom Connection as 50% of the contributors are from the neighborhoods that you've listed. The above poster is correct, Brandon Oaks is town all by itself, but it is very nice. I know that one of the mommies on UCM has a house for sale in Brook Valley so she may be a good resource as well. We love newcomers in Union County. Good luck.

Both my daughters live in Brandon Oaks and love it. One is in a year round area and the other in traditional. The daughter who in is year round will be switched to traditional Sun Valley in September. There are pros and cons to both. If you are looking at Brandon Oaks you can find out ahead of time whether the "village" you choose is traditional of year round. Good Luck.

Speaking for Brandon Oaks, there are tons of empty lots that are far away from Power Lines. Plenty of homes to choose from. New construction and up to 10 years old depending what "neigborhood" you look in.
We like the year round school system although we will be switching to sun valley ES next year which will start off as a traditional....I believe there will be a vote further on to see if it will be changed to year round. Positives and negatives to both year round and traditional...
Clean community. Reasonable dues....pm me if you need anymore specific info...good luck

I dont live there but I am in the commnunity 3 or 4 times a week. two of my friends(retired NYC transit & retired LIRR) live in Brandon Oaks. I am also from Long Island (Retired LIRR Babylon & Port Jeff Lines) Brandon Oaks is very Family oriented. There are many differnet price points and there does not seem to be the keep up with the Jones mentality. All the homes are well kept and reasonably priced. There are few, if any foreclosures. a few builders are still building new homes. It has the feel of suffolk county, without the LIE....

ALL TICKETS!
I tell you, I don't miss that ride from Oakdale to Penn every day. I eventually moved up and took the Ronko line for years... I hope you won't get insulted when I tell you I had a huge love/hate relationship with the LIRR.
