You might still be able to find something like this way up on Hwy 16 in Lincoln county as long as it's not near Lake Norman. West Lincoln also has good schools.
It's possible from either to make it to the center city in 30 minutes IF the traffic isn't bad. Traffic on Hwy 16 really isn't that bad as compared to I-77, I-85 or Hwy 74.
Maybe way out north of Monroe you get that with a trailer, but nothing on Lawyers rd near 485 is going to be even close to that price.
You might be able to buy 5-6 acres and build for 350-400k. But you'll be cutting back on lifestyle with the type of house you get. I know of a 5ac plot with a huge home built (and last updated) in the 70's in rural Cab county very close to Union County for around $300k but you're going to need to put $50-100k into the home to make it look current...
1715 Union Road - 5 acres and a 2700 square foot cabin for $315K, is pretty close to Lawyers Road.

I can't imagine getting from western Lincoln County to Uptown in 30 minutes, but beyond that, that leaves a choice of Shelby or Lincolnton for day to day shopping, with fairly inconvenient trips to either Hickory or Gastonia for the rest.

This is the one I mentioned earlier. It needs 50-100k in work to make it current. Additionally the land surrounding has been continually looked at for commercial and higher density residential. Been on the market for well over a year I believe.

Got ya. That's in Mecklenburg though. Yeah looks like it's been on the market on & off for over 2 years.

This address is in Matthews. It illustrates the point that siting of the house is more important in providing privacy than the actual acreage. A house on 10 acres set close to a road could have less privacy than this place which is in the center of the lot surrounded by deep woods.
I wish the OP has said what the use of the 10 acres would be. Were they looking mainly for privacy? Or did the want open acreage for horses, crops or ATV riding?

Not really.
Actually there is quite a bit of day to day shopping now at the intersection of Hwy 73 & Hwy 16. Walmart, Lowes, Harris Teeter, Foodlion, Aldi, drug stores, 7 gas stations, Cookout, numerous restaurants etc etc. And Huntersville would be much easier place to go shopping than Hickory or Statesville.
I-485 is about a 15 minute drive from there, and you can be downtown in about 30-40 minutes.

My bad, that area of town where the three counties meet gets confusing pretty quickly, can be a royal pain in the ass with government services and 911 as well.

Agreed, but that's southeastern Lincoln County, I think southbound was more commenting on your additional mention of western Lincoln County.

Deflect, deflect. . .
I referred to you suggesting western Lincoln County, which is north of Cherryville, between Shelby & Lincolnton. If that's not what you meant by western Lincoln, clear it up now.
West of Charlotte, it's rare to need to go to anywhere for shopping, beyond the mundane, other than Hickory & Gastonia, which are, roughly, 30 minutes apart.
ETA: Where did you get Statesville from? I said Hickory or Gastonia.
