Hi all! We are looking to relocate to the Charlotte area soon. We would like to have at least 10 acres (preferably more), within a hour's drive of the airport (for work, we will either be working from home or traveling), with good public schools. Elevation would be preferable on the land. It seems like west of Charlotte has more hills, but I've also heard that's a bad area - does that extend all the way out to Gastonia, or is the bad area closer to Charlotte city limits? Statesville may be another option - it seems like they have decent schools. Is that true? And how is the area? Mooresville looks like it would be ideal, but I don't know if our land requirements will work within the school district limits. Are there other areas we should look at, that are safe areas with good schools? Thanks!

What do you mean by bad? That's subjective.

Southbound - By bad, I mean meth land or a high crime area. Rural with nothing around is fine; I just don't want dangerous.

CLT - Budget can go up to 600k, but would really prefer to stay closer to 400k max. Sorry, should have included that in the original post.

We don't even mind finding somewhere with a house that needs work, or even building ourselves if it's the right piece of land.

Corrected my original post to Mooresville instead of Morrisville.

If you want 10 acres I'd suggest that you look in the vicinity of Kings Mountain. That would get you in the neighborhood of 30 minutes to the airport.

If you're going to need high-speed internet, check it out before you get attached to a place. Someone was looking a couple of years ago & he had trouble finding someone who wanted his business. Charter & Time Warner have since combined. That may no longer be an issue.

Which school grades are you in need of?

Thanks! That definitely helps! It looks like the schools are decent in Kings Mountain too. We'll need 5th grade next year, and obviously continuing through to graduation.

And thanks for the tip about the internet - that's absolutely on our list!

Just to be honest, I live in the city in Kings Mountain.

5th grade is the intermediate school. that includes city, rural & the town of Grover.

Here's a thought. Call Spectrum (formerly Time Warner ) & tell them that you're starting to look near Kings Mountain & ask how far from the city limits they will hook up for service. AT&T also serves Kings Mountain.

As to meth, it's here. On the other hand, I used to live a good suburb of Philadelphia in South Jersey. It was there, too. Occasionally some fool would blow up their house, cooking meth. The city police in Kings Mountain are very proactive. That doesn't help outside of the city limits except it is a discouragement for those so inclined.

Look in Waxhaw as well, although due to huge development it might be pricier to get the land.

However once you do find it, it would be a great investment for the future, due to demand.
