I am relocating NC within the next month or so and am looking for single family homes within 30 mins of Uptown. The areas that I have looked at have been in South Charlotte - 28210, 28211, 28277, 28226 and I have even looked at the Lake Wylie area 29710. I like the look and feel of the neighborhoods because they remind me of the NorthWest Suburbs of Chicago where I used to live (Lincolnshire, Highland Park, Northbrook, etc..) I am looking for a single family home, 3+ beds, 2.5+ baths, 2,000 sq or more with a decent yard. Being able to have a magnolia tree in the yard or at least plant one would be nice as well. Safety is key and since I do not have any young children, the schools in the area do not have to be a "10" rating. Been there, done that. I had recently been looking at the Mountain Island Lake area because of its proximity to uptown, but the post I came across were rather negative. They were from the 2008-2013, so I am wondering if the area has changed. I liked the homes that I saw. Any feedback you can give me around the areas I mentioned earlier (South Charlotte, Mountain Island Lake, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.
I'd suggest sticking to south Charlotte. Lots of good neighborhoods in 28226, 28210 and 28211. I'd also recommend paying attention to schools for resale.
Look at Belmont. You will much more home for your money, lower taxes, and a great suburban town that has an easier commute into uptown than many areas of Charlotte itself.

Agree with what has been posted. I think what strikes me most is that you feel most comfortable with an area that at least a little bit reminds you of home.

The areas you outlined are highly desirable and do come with the applicable pricetag. I'm sure you wouldn't be looking there if the homes didn't already fit into that budget.
We moved here a couple of years ago ourselves and did an exhaustive search much like it seems you're doing in order to narrow down where "Home" would be.
Out of curiosity, are you planning on landing somewhere for a while and looking over time or seeking to move and buy at the same time? The reason I ask is that inventory is still currently lagging behind meaning right now the scenario tends to be more buyers than desirable properties available causing the market to be pretty hot.
Best of luck in your move and I hope everything goes smoothly for you and yours!
Thank you for your question. Since my company will be relocating me, I only have a certain amount of time to utiilize their relocation benefits so I will be looking to purchase. I can definitely agree with what you have said about the market. It is pretty hot and what is out there is definitely not. Since my home is still on the market I am not in a rush to purchase, however;I realize that when it does go under contract, I need to be ready to make a move. I will be working in Uptown so being able to get there in less than 30-35 mins would be great. I like to get into work early (pre-6:00 AM) so being a bit further out is ok.
