Are there 3 schools opening, el, mid and high and when are they opening. I heard building was delayed due to new homes not being built and the population therefore remaining fairly stable in the next 12 months. When they do go there which subdivisions are set to move. We are buying in Weddington Trace and I think we maybe one of the ones moving. We're ok with that, we've done it before, but it doesn't seem there is any clear information

Our community is across the street from where they're building the schools. I'm not sure about a delay. I think it may be completed by 2010?? As far as I can tell they are there eveyday Mon thru Fri starting early in the morning and working till dark. So I'm not sure if there will be a delay. And yes from what I understand WT will go to these schools. Do a search on city data I believe Berryjuice started a post w/ the proposal and what communities will be affected.

Are they written in stone? I did look at those when they were posted, but it doesn't seem very definite, maybe some are. Is it still under discussion?

it is a proposal, however according to a friend of ours who works in Union county schools she said it is pretty much in stone..there is a public meeting on april 8th regarding the school assignments, and then the board will meet april 15th and Vote..there should be an answer on it shortly following the april 15th Vote..

raybourne---from yrgm's wife
As far as kids settling in school-we have an elemantary age and toddler. Obviously no problems w/ the toddler. Our 8 year old at first did not want to move from NJ as we left all family and friends. So to him he was leaving everything that he knew was his life. Luckily, we moved into a community w/ lots of children his age. He attends New Town. It has been a good experience so far. His major complaint at this school is they don't offer stuffed crust pizza on Fri and it's just regular pizza.LOL and he is a picky eatter. I think IMO it has been much more difficult on us as parents compared to him. Our first week here he met so many children both at school and in our community. He has adjusted well and I'm guessing if we had to move back to NJ he would be very disappointed to leave his friends and school. I'm not sure how old your children are but I think if they're in elementary it's an easier adjustment compared to teenagers. So many kids move in and out of our areas that I think all the kids are open to "the new kid" b/c it happens so often and most if not all have been "the new kid" recently. Even teenagers. Good luck w/ your move. We really were positive to him about the move and I think it really helped. IMO the school systems are well adjusted w/ all the new kids entering the schools. They don't get tired of giving the tour, or introducing you to their teacher.

it isnt all that difficult either middle school age, our son has adjusted well, and now has really nice friends as we were new here as well..Its not as scary as it sounds...remember all the developments travel together to these new schools, and what is nice if some go and some dont it gives them a chance to make new freinds...
