Hello ...

We have found some good furniture on craigslist. We need a truck to move two large and heavy 6/3 desks. Any thoughts on cheapest way to move them home? No friends around to help

Thanks in advance...

Two men and a truck. In the yellow pages, I believe.

Stay away from Two Men and a Truck. Everyone that I know that has used them have had awful experiences ranging from breaking items and not paying for them, running over our mail boxes and denying it even though there were witnesses, driving through lawns to get to a front door, and totally screwing up bills. Just something you might want to consider.

Moving Help® - Local Movers | Moving Labor Services | U-Haul partner

We've used this site before and it was MUCH more affordable than a "professional" co. like 2 Men and a Truck.

Might be something to look into.

People are always looking for "cheap" ways to move, it's one of life's most stressful events IMO. There's plenty of professional movers out there who capitalize on this and charge a lot of $$. I like this site because you can get quotes right away and you get your own truck.

Just go rent a U Haul truck and do it yourself if you can move them yourself. That would be the simplest solution.

Either UHaul (we've done this several times when buying furniture) or hire someone that is advertised on CL in the moving section.

This is an old thread, but I have some advice. I will be using FREIGHT to move my household goods from Fl to NC. You pay for the footage you use on a regular tractor trailer rig, not the weight. They drop off the trailer at your home, 2 to 3 days to load it yourself after u packed it. On the other end, they leave trailer where u want and you unload. I need help with load and unload and googled "moving labor" - several companies came up with prices and what the offers covered. I saw one about 350$ for 2 men, for two hours. Longer, you pay additional, something you do more asking about. Say they have experience in moving work. My estimate for the Freight move (not labor) was about 1280 $. Covers gas, taxes, etc and way cheaper than hiring someone to pack and move me, even with the labor.
I could try and save money and hire a 22 fit Penske truck, but gas mileage and pricing would be about $200.., whole thing about $700. Yes cheaper, but I'd have to drive a big truck and my car would have to be driven with gas pricing, too. Hope this helps. doing it the freight way was before PODS and where they got the idea I think.
