to see all this new crime...aghh driving my DH and I bonkers! Tons of new things happened in our neighborhood too..items stolen off our porch. Again really contemplating the move we made.
According to my brother, two instances of break-ins in Providence Arbors had the telephone lines cut, so the security system could not call in.
I am having mine upgraded to cell response today!
This happened in our neighborhood last week as well (cut the cable/phone and electric before breaking in through the back). Successful 9.30 AM armed robbery after they had cased at least two other houses (this was after a 'successful' break-in a month earlier). A couple of nights later a car break-in. Subdivision next to us has had four armed robberies (all during the day) in the last month or so.
It's a really strange world we live in. Just 3 years ago Charlotte was a really nice place to live but now the crime here is just rediculous. I saw a statistic that Charlotte(pineville area) had the 2nd highest burglary rate in the nation behind myrtle beach. The criminals here are technicians for sure. They are good at what they do.
Mullman - tell me more. "upgrade to cell response" ??? If you want to DM me, send me info so I will know what to do at my house.
Most of the large alarm companies have the ability to use a cellular technology to make the call, versus a landline. That way with the battery back up and cellular, it works even if the power and phone lines are cut to your home. Obviously it cost a little more, but IMHO is well worth it. In the even the line is cut, a call is automatically made via cell to the monitoring office and they contact you over the speaker and tell you your line is cut. Late at night this could notify of a possible break-in even before it happens. Enough time to grab the 12 gauge!
FWIW I have the email from Prescott Place II (sub div inside Beverly Crest) break-in, just forwarded to me from a lawyer friend who is a resident. Full details of the incident on Friday from the homeowner.
OK to post if I block all names and personal references or not?
