Well the Rays are close to their new stadium deal here in Tampa. It looks like that is moving forward nicely so I would not assume they will go anywhere now. They will love from st.Pete to Ybor City Tampa.
I wont pretend to have any real knowledge of who else will move or who will get an expansion, but I do know that Nashville DOES want a team. Whether they get it who knows. All the afformentioned cities make a lot of sense as well.

i think these decisions go way beyond the mayor. Fan support, MLB, City Council and local funding will trump a mayors opinion.
Yea, but if the mayor isn't willing to pull in the support, the bid won't go far. Nashville, new AAA stadium is on par with BBT and they face the same issues that Charlotte dies. It's rejuvenating the Germantown neighborhoodand and it's not expandable to major league standards. I'd bet both Nashville & Charlotte, while both are deserving and have become major league cities, will not finish in the top 2 in this.
For me, I'm happy with what we've got, the AAA team for my favorite MLB team, a great stadium with awesome views, and a chance to see baseball at reasonable costs.
Not to nit-pick but that was actually Kernersville that was interested in the Twins. I don't think they were ever seriously going to move there but that's where they were going to play. Thankfully that one got nixed, no way that would have worked long-term.
Your point still stands though, I can remember after the Expos moved to DC there were rumblings that the Marlins were looking to move and yep, Charlotte was one of the rumored cities. Then they got their stadium. The Rays were supposedly interested in moving here around that same time and 10 years later they are still playing in St. Petersburg.
Charlotte and NC is simply a "dangling carrot" for teams needing a new stadium.

Portland and Charlotte look like the two strongest candidates to me (they both are stronger than 7 current MLB markets). And it's only a matter of 5-10 years before Portland and Charlotte pass Baltimore. Discuss please.....
Governor Lee is on board and host of others. Mayor Briley, however, said he does not support a new stadium using public funds.
