any commute to/from uptown for a regular 9 to 5 is going to be an issue. Ballantyne via 485 is the worst due to poor city planning.

I personally would never use 485 going to or coming home from work. Driving on the city streets from Uptown down to the south is still heavy but so much better than the interstate. There are several options for routes too, which you don't get if you depend on the interstate to get into Uptown like the people who live up at the lake areas.

I am a native Floridian, and have been back in FL for visits over the years. The traffic in NC is not even close to being as bad as the traffic in south Florida. But that said, traffic can be very bad during rush hour. The 'city leaders' are trying to shove light rail down our throats. They are trying to regulate morality - forcing us out of our cars and into light-rail. The 'city leaders' also built an arena that no one wanted (we voted it down, they built it anyway), constantly fund their pet projects with taxpayer money, and generally run the city out of the pockets of the homeowners.

That is why when we moved here 10 years ago we chose Concord. Concord is north-west of Charlotte. Small town charm, lower crime, lower taxes than Charlotte. If you are into the 'single bar' scene there arean't any in Concord. You will need to go to Charlotte for that (25 miles to the heart of the city).
