I am thinking about adding 1000 sq ft or so to my 2,400 sq foot house. The addition would be 2 stories and maybe it would be a goid time to finish the basement and/or attic.

Does anyone recommend a contractor who can do this work well? I assume it’ll cost a pretty penny. If you’ve done a similar addition may I ask the size and price?

Thanks

Andrew Roby does great high end remodeling, but it will be expensive. Depending on your neighborhood comps, you could be looking at an additional $100,000 - $250,000 in addition expense. It will also depend on what you are putting in that additional 1,000 square feet (kitchens, bathrooms, etc...?)

We converted an unheated sunroom into a family room at our house and knocked down walls to make an open concept. Total cost was $25,000 for a 325 square foot room, but the core foundation of the room was already there.

I'm assuming you are in a neighborhood of custom homes / remodeled homes so an additional 1,000 square feet makes sense investment wise too?

I think I would add a new kitchen and convert the old one into a little mother-in-law suite.
My house is 40 years old and it will need to be replumbed soon. I was thinking that will be a major undertaking and the time might be right to make a significant addition with a new master and new kitchen.
