Is there any place other than McAdenville that has good organized showing of Christmas lights or even an all day Christmas theme event? My wife and I are heading to The Biltmore in early December and she wants to see the lights at McAdenville as a side trip. I am trying to find other things to do in the Charlotte area that is Christmasy. Thanks.

Kings Mountain has had a light show downtown for 5 or 6 years. You park by the railroad tracks & bring up the audio on your radio. It lasts about 30 minutes.

NASCAR track...seriously. You drive on the track (& through the concourse) and the entire track is decorated in lights. The lights are timed to music that you play through your car radio. They also have a large screen showing Christmas movies that you can watch in your car, a live nativity, etc.

On a smaller scale, Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens has a nice peaceful quiet display of lights throughout the grounds.

Not sure the exact times, but the Phillips Place shopping center in SouthPark also has a small festival in the evenings and they play a pretty neat light show up on the side of the hotel building (it's much cooler than it sounds).

I wouldn't call Tanglewood in the "Charlotte area".

It's a great suggestion for sure!

Thanks, NDL. The city museum also has a large model train setup for the holidays. Like the light show & McAdenville, it's free.

On November 17th, I think that's a day before the general opening of the Display, there is a 5K run through the display/partially on the track. My wife and I did it last year and it is great! It wasn't exactly my best elapsed time run-wise but a great time otherwise. You get a whole other perspective than you do when you're in your car (we've done that too).

No, thank you

And thanks for the reminder about the model train setup! (I forgot about that)

I thought the Speedway lights were very well done when I went, and they also have a little “Christmas Village,” although it’s not exactly cheap ($20-$30 per car).

McAdenville wasn’t bad but kinda overrated IMO, and the traffic can be insane.
