Hi Guys....I have a choice of moving to Charlotte for my job or staying in NJ. I was looking into possibly moving to Denver and wanted to get some thoughts on how it is..schools etc. What the commute is like from Denver to Charlotte? Thanks!

"Charlotte" is very large...where exactly is your job located? Why are you looking at Denver?

It is at TIAA - 8500 Andrew Carnagie Blvd.

Been looking in Denver because it seems nice up there (did a little research house hunting 2 years ago) I am not a "city" person, so I like to be out in the suburbs

Its going to be close to an hour commute from there. And Lincoln County doesn't have the greatest schools. I think you'd be better off looking in the Concord or Harrisburg areas.

I looked at concord but did not like the area much (I think it was near the university) Someone mentioned they were making a toll road up to Denver to help with the commute.

Yeah I kinda assumed the hour commute (Even if I worked in NYC it is 1 1/2 hour) so it is something I would be willing to work with. Why are the schools not good?

You weren't in Concord if you were near UNCC.

I had a job interview near Andrew Carnegie Blvd and it tooke an hour from Concord Mills area. I think it will be longer of a com.ute from Denver. We have friends that live in Denver and they enjoy it. They are on the lake and both are retired now.

I'm not a City person really, but I see that Birkdale Village is only 20 min away or so which is not bad.

We moved to Mooresville about two years ago from NJ. We had considered Denver and Troutman but both are not as convinent to shopping etc. as Mooresville. We are retired so schools weren't a consideration. You will find that schools here are much different than in NJ. There is a lower tax base here and less money for the school system. Teachers aren't paid near as much as up north. We are retired so the lower tax base works for us. Following others on this forum, some parents opt for private schools. Going to Charlotte anywhere from around here is going to be a chore although the new toll lanes might make things for faster when they open this summer. A lot of debate about that. If you ever drove on Rt. 80 during rush hour though I think Rt. 77 is better, just my opinion. I believe you can get more house for your money in Denver. You have to weigh whats important for you and go from there.
