My wife and I will be moving to the Lake Norman area from Fort Myers, FL. and are not from the area. We don’t necessarily want to live ON lake Norman but one of the smaller surrounding towns would be nice. We aren’t really into the city life but a charming town with nice shops that has a good community, schools and is not too rowdy would be great. We love nature so woods would be a huge plus. Thank you for your help everyone!

You might want to consider posting in the Charlotte forum since Lake Norman is part of that forum. Davidson would be a good fit for the attributes you described as BC1960 said.

I moved to Charlotte from Naples, Fl in 2017.. Just 20 mins down the road from you lol.. Expect Naples prices around that area.. also they have a big cancer cluster issue there... We ended up changing our minds moving to Lake Norman after do more research on the issues with radiation in the ground water and the cancer in surrounding towns like Mooresville also (thyroid cancer rates through the roof).. I'd recommend Matthews for what you're looking for..

You don't say what your budget is but Davidson would be my first suggestion. Cornelius as well.

Our budget would top out at 200,000-250,000$

That eliminates Davidson. You might find something in Huntersville or Cornelius, depending on size, exact location, etc.

You can definitely afford Davidson in this price range...but it will likely be a condominium on the lake. Actually not a bad deal at all depending on your needs.
