I'm a single female planning to move to Charlotte in a month and was checking out a place in Ashley Park since it's cheap and I'm trying to save money. Is Ashley Park actually quite dangerous or is it just a low income area? I'm willing to take extra precautions to save some money but don't want to be constantly afraid of being murdered (or even harassed a lot). I am used to living in pretty safe areas.

Looking on Google Street View I do not see anything particularly bad-looking about it, but I saw it ranked as 13th worst neighborhood in Charlotte and other negative things about its crime statistics. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't live there, and I certainly wouldn't let my young single (or even married) daughter live there.

Since you are used to living in safe areas, I wouldn't recommend Ashley Park. That stretch along Wilkinson is pretty rough. While the neighborhoods themselves look ok, the shopping, gas stations you'd be visiting, grocery stores, etc... are all in a higher crime area. Expect a good amount of loiterers when filling up your gas, etc..

A great way to determine 100% if you want live in area is to do the following.. Go to the place you plan to live on a friday night around 10 oclock and park your car. Next go for a little walk for about 2 blocks making a circle. You will quickly see what you dont want to see if this is the wrong neighborhood. ps wear running shoes..lol

I’d just recommend getting a roommate and staying in a safer area. I wouldn’t be afraid to live anywhere in Charlotte as a man but for a single female I wouldn’t recommend that area.

If you want to go cheap but be relatively safe without roommates then your closest bet would probably be the University area.

When we go to uptown at night there are young females coming out of NYC rental rate apartments walking their dogs pass homeless people and drug dealers.. It's perfectly safe...
