So Saturday as I'm leaving Earth Fare in Ballantyne I noticed Poppy's wasn't there and its a new joint called Italia Eatery. I am thinking "great, here comes another wannabe NY pizza and pasta place." I walk into get a menu and the smell hypnotized me. It was between lunch and dinner so the owners (Italian family) were eating. They have deck ovens (no conveyors) and it looks and smells like a great place. Have any NYC transplants tried it and if so, what is the verdict?
It was mediocre. The Caprese pizza that I ordered was ok, and not as good as Tony's right down the block. I did not care for their pasta dishes also, their sauce tasted like US Foodservice out of a can.
I won't go back.
Going back, this is like the 3rd place that has been there....first Red Brick, then Poppy's and now this pace. You know what happens in baseball when you get three strikes.
I ate there a few weeks ago & it was terrible. My wife had the grilled chicken salad. It took them an hour to make it & there was a big white hair running through it. I had a meatball sub that also took an hour to make. It had no taste. The meatballs were a little bigger than the ones in spaghetti Os. The service was bad too. We had to refill our own drinks. I won't be going back. There are other, much better choices nearby.
Try Degarmo's (sp?) in Tega Cay. I'm not Italian, but I am picky about food, and from what I hear, these are second-generation Italians from New York. Quite delicious.
i tried that place and it was awful(near earthfare)
